From Native American spirits to New Age spiritualism, there is a definite energy in the air of Sedona, Arizona. Most locals will tell you it originates from vortexes in the area, notably at Cathedral Rock, Bell Rock and others.
Originally home to the Yavapai and Apache tribes, they were removed by force to the San Carlos Indian Reservation in 1876. More than 60 movies were made in Sedona including the 2007 film, “3:10 to Yuma” starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale.

Production Notes: Photos were taken with a Nikon D2X using a 28-105mm zoom lens. ISO was set to 100 and white balance was set to daylight. Aperture settings ranged from f9 to f10 for the daylight photos. Shutter speed was most often set at 1/200 with a few shots later in the day at 1/160. The evening “Layers of Mountains” photo was still at ISO 100, yet the white balance was set to cool white fluorescent to get the blue color I wanted. The aperture was set at f7.1 and shutter speed was fast at 1/640 to reduce the amount of light coming into the sensor because, as you can tell, the evening sun (8:05pm) was just above the top of the frame.
